#Okayama City.

The capital of Okayama Prefecture, Okayama City serves as a major transportation hub - making it an excellent base for further exploration. The city is home to numerous attractions including the black-crow style Okayama Castle and Korakuen Garden (one of Japan's top three gardens).

Highlights: Okayama Castle (pictured), Korakuen Garden, Kibitsu Jinja, Okayama Orient Museum, Sogen Temple (bus from JR Okayama), Okayama City Handayama Botanical Gardens, Kongosan Hokaiin.

Transport: Shinkansen services run between Shin-Osaka & Okayama, with most services taking less than an hour each way.
#Kurashiki.

Although quite popular nowadays, the city of Kurashiki has a relaxed feel along with a range of sightseeing opportunities. With historic streets surrounding a canal, Kurashiki makes for a lovely day out.

Highlights: Bikan Historic Quarter (pictured), Denim Street, Achi Shrine, Kanryuji, Kurashiki River Old town, Kurashiki Moneybox Museum.

Transport: JR line trains run directly between Okayama and Kurashiki, taking less than 20 minutes each way.
From Shin-Osaka the total journey time will generally take under 1.5 hours with a change at Okayama.
