#Day Trips from Kanazawa.
The following make for both easy and interesting day trips from Kanazawa City.
1. Takaoka & Himi.
Easily accessed by train from Kanazawa, the cities of Takaoka and Himi boast a wealth of sightseeing opportunities. The cities are located next to one another, making it possible for early risers to see both in a single day.

Journey duration: From Kanazawa take the Shinkansen to Shin-Takaoka (about 15 minutes) then local train onto Takaoka (around 5 minutes). From Takaoka, it is around another 30 minutes to Himi by local train.

Highlights - Takaoka Station: Alight at Takaoka Station for Zuiryu-ji, Takaoka Great Buddha, Doraemon Walking Road, Yamachosuji Historical Preservation District, and Takaoka Old Castle Park.

Highlights - Fushiki Station: Alight at Fushiki Station for Fushiki Shrine, Shoko-ji, Fushiki Kitame-bune Museum, and Keta Jinja.

Highlights - Himi Station: Alight at Himi Station for Himi Seaside Botanical Gardens, Isetama Shrine, Asahiyama Park, Asahiyama Jonichi Temple, and Manga Road (pictured).

Rail Pass: A JR Rail Pass is valid for travel on JR lines between Kanazawa and the above-mentioned places.

Bonus Tip: Parents with young children may like to check out the Takaoka Otogi-no-mori Park, located around a 15-minute walk from Shin-Takaoka Station.
2. Nanto.
Known for its picturesque villages of world-heritage status, the city of Nanto is the perfect day trip from Kanazawa. Note: many noteworthy places within Nanto require travel by bus or car to be reached.

Journey Duration: The Shinkansen from Kanazawa to Shin-Takaoka will take around 15 minutes. From Shin-Takaoka Kaetsuno Buses run to Ainokuraguchi and Suganuma and take around one hour and 90 minutes respectively.
