With plenty to see and do and offering some great day trips, the sprawling city of Kochi is an excellent place to base oneself for a few days.

  • Highlights: Statues of the Three Tosa Samurai, Kochi Castle,  Hirome Market, Harimayabashi,  Harimayabashi Shopping Arcade, The Kochi Prefecture Makino Botanical Garden (bus), Chikurinji Temple (bus), Godaisan Park (bus).

#Day trips from Kochi.

1. Miyoshi.

For those who enjoy taking in the scenery, Miyoshi comes highly recommended. A few days is recommended for visitors keen to explore the area in depth, though parts could be explored as a day trip for those with less time. 

 

  • Journey Duration: Limited Express trains run directly between Kochi and Oboke Stations and take under an hour one way. 

  • Highlights - JR Oboke Station: Yokai Hobgoblin Village, Oboke Gorge Sightseeing Boat, Oboke Gorge (pictured), Heike Yashiki Museum of Folklore (Iya-Bus - alight at Heikeyashiki/平家屋敷前), Vine Bridge in Iya Valley (Iya-Bus - alight at Kazurabashi/ かずら橋), Statue of a Peeing Boy (Iya-Bus - alight at Hotel Iyaonsen/ホテル祖谷温泉).

  • Highlights - JR Koboke Station: Koboke Gorge Suspension Bridge, Koboke Observation Deck, RiverStation West-West.

  • Rail Pass: The JR Pass is valid for travel between Kochi and Oboke Stations.
