1. Uki.

Home to the historic and picturesque Misumi West Port, the city of Uki makes for an ideal day out.

Journey Duration: Local trains run between Kumamoto and Uki Stations, taking just under an hour each way.
Highlights - JR Misumi Station: Misumi West Port, Old Misumi Summary Court, Ryujo-kan, Urashimaya (pictured), Site of Uto District Office.
Rail Pass: A JR Rail Pass is valid for travel on this journey.
Bonus Tip: For a luxury experience, consider taking the A-Train between Kumamoto and Misumi. Note: a JR Pass can be used to ride this train; however, reservations are required. A timetable can be found here.
