#Takasaki

Lying just next to the prefectural capital of Maebashi, Takasaki is well known for its historical and cultural attractions. The city is probably best known for being the hometown of the Daruma Doll, which can be found all over Japan. 
 

  • Highlights: Daishō Gokoku-ji Temple (open Fri-Sun only), Darumado, Shorinzan Daruma-ji Temple, Ruins of Takasaki-jō Castle, Daimonya, Jigen-in Temple (Kannon-Yama Bus from JR Takasaki Station), Tokumeien Garden (Kannon-Yama Bus from JR Takasaki Station), Gunma-ken Gokoku-jinja Shrine (Kannon-Yama Bus from JR Takasaki Station).

  • Transport: Trains run directly from JR Tokyo and JR Nagano with both routes reaching JR Takasaki in under an hour. Trains also run directly between JR Niigata and JR Takasaki and generally take just over an hour.
