The city of Tochigi is noted for its historic warehouses overlooking the river, the city of Tochigi makes for a great starting point for those wanting to explore some of the Tochigi Prefecture. Popular Ashikaga Flower Park lies a 30-minute train ride away.

Highlights: Kuranomachi Promenade, Korai Bridge, Tochigi City Literature Museum Building, Shin Mei Gu (pictured), Hirayanagi Hoshinomiya Shrine, Iwashita New Ginger Museum.

Transport: JR Line trains run between Tokyo and Tochigi, taking just over an hour with a change at Oyama.
Alternatively, the Spacia Nikko (run by JR East & Tobu Railway) departs for Tochigi in the morning and returns from Tochigi in the late afternoon with a journey time of around 1 hour 20 minutes each way.
Note: For JR Rail Pass holders travelling on the Spacia Nikko, a separate ticket and seat reservation must be pre-purchased for travel between Kurihashi and Tochigi. For holders of a valid JR Tokyo Wide Pass or JR East Pass, the entire journey aboard the Spacia Nikko is covered.
