Located on the island of Shikoku, Takamatsu is largely overlooked despite there being plenty to see and do including waterfront strolls, gardens, castle ruins, and temples. 

 

  • Highlights - Takamatsu Station: Alight at Takamatsu Station for Takamatsu Symbol Tower (pictured), Sunport Fountain, Tamamo Pier Lighthouse, and Takamatsu Castle Park.

  • Highlights - Ritsurin-Kōen-Kitaguchi Station: Alight at Ritsurin-Kōen-Kitaguchi Station for Ritsurin Gardens.

  • Highlights - Kotoden-Yashima Station: Alight at Kotoden-Yashima Station for Yashima Shrine, Shikoku Village, Yashima Temple and Shishi-no-Reigan Observation Deck (via Yashima-Sanjo Shuttle Bus).

#Day trips from Takamatsu.

For those wishing to explore beyond the Takamatsu city area, the following places can make for great day trips. 

1. Kotohira.

Lying just over a half hour by Shinkansen from Takamatsu is the town of Kotohira. The town is not only easily accessible for those wishing to take a short day trip out of Takamatsu but is also home to the impressive Kotohira Shrine. 

  • Journey Duration: Around 35 to 45 minutes by Shinkansen from Takamatsu Station.

  • Highlights: Kotoro > Konpira Omotesando > Kotohira Shrine > Goriyakuya (souvenir/gift shop)

  • Rail Pass: The JR Pass is valid for travel (on JR Lines) between Takamatsu and Kotohira.
