#Morioka.

The principal city of Iwate Prefecture, picturesque Morioka offers a wealth of sightseeing opportunities. Known for its beautiful springtime cherry blossoms and vibrant Autumn colours, the city is the perfect place to spend a few days.

Highlights: Hōonji Temple (500 Rakan), The lord of Nambu’s Villa, The Former Governor Ishii's Residence, Morioka Hachimangu Shrine, Bank of Iwate Red Brick Building, Malios 20th floor observation deck.

Transport: Direct trains run between JR Tokyo and JR Morioka and take under 2.5 hours. For those coming from JR Sendai, JR Morioka can be reached in less than an hour.
#Hiraizumi.

If temples and teahouses set within picturesque landscapes sound appealing, the town of Hiraizumi will not disappoint.

Highlights: Motsuji Temple, Kumanosansha, Muryoko-in Ato, Chūsonji Temple (pictured), and Hiraizumi Rest House.

Transport: Direct trains run between JR Morioka and JR Hiraizumi and take under 1.5 hours. From JR Sendai, one can reach JR Hiraizumi in less than an hour with a change at JR Ichinoseki.
Note: For those travelling from Sendai, reservations are required between JR Sendai and JR Ichinoseki.
